Silks or hoop?

Not sure whether to try silks or hoop? Both are perfect for beginners — and you can try either (or both!) in your trial.

AERIAL FABRIC

Aerial silks (also called aerial fabric or tissue) involves climbing, wrapping, and flowing on two long pieces of fabric hanging from the ceiling. You'll learn to climb, hold poses, and create beautiful shapes in the air. It builds grip strength, flexibility, and body awareness while feeling like a mix of dance and acrobatics.

AERIAL HOOP

Aerial hoop, also known as lyra, is a circular metal ring suspended in the air. You'll learn to sit, spin, and move through poses inside and around the hoop. It's great for building upper body strength and core stability, and many people find it a bit easier to start with than silks.

FREQUENT

Questions

Do I need to be able to do the splits?

Absolutely not! You do not need to be flexible to start — in fact, most of our beginners aren't. Flexibility is something you build gradually over time in class. We work with the range of motion you have right now, and you'll be surprised how quickly it improves.

I have no upper body strength. Will I manage?

Yes — and this is honestly one of the most common worries we hear. Aerial builds your strength as you go. The movements in the absolute beginners class are scaled to where you are now, and the strength will come with practice. You don't need to arrive strong; you'll leave stronger.

Is it safe? Will I fall?

Safety is central to everything we teach from day one. You'll learn how to wrap correctly, how to hold safely, and how to move in the air with control. In beginner classes you'll work close to the ground for most skills, with your teacher right there. We don't rush anyone into heights they're not ready for.

I'm not graceful, is it still for me?

100%. You don't need a dance or sports background. Many of our students had never done anything like this before — that's literally what this class is for. The class is welcoming and non-competitive: everyone moves at their own pace, and there's no expectation to perform or be impressive.

What should I wear?

Fitted sports clothing works best — leggings and a fitted top are ideal. Avoid anything too loose as fabric can catch. Bare feet or grip socks are recommended. For silks, it helps to have your legs and arms partially covered to protect your skin while you're learning wraps.

How high up will I be?

In your first classes, most of the work is low to the ground — often with your feet still touching or very close to the mat. As you progress and your teacher feels you're ready, you'll move higher. The goal is always to work at a height where you feel confident, not scared.
