LESSONS FOR TEENS

Why aerial silks for teens?

The Youth Aerial Arts Program at Aerials Amsterdam gives young people the chance to do something genuinely different — building strength, creativity and confidence in the air, in a small group with experienced instructors who actually love working with teens.

It's not gymnastics. It's not dance. It's something all of their own.

For teens, this means:

  • Building strength and coordination while having fun.

  • Gaining body awareness and confidence in movement.

  • Learning discipline and patience through step-by-step progression.

  • Exploring creativity by trying out shapes, flows, and playful transitions.

It’s not just about “tricks.” It’s about helping teens grow more comfortable in their own skin, supporting their physical and emotional development, and giving them the confidence to take on new challenges.

For Parents

What you'll want to know

Classes are small (max 12 students), taught by experienced instructors, and safety is built in from the very first session.

Height is introduced gradually — your teen won't be sent up the silk on day one. We'll always work within their comfort level and keep you informed.

For Teens

What you'll want to know

Think less boring workout, more circus. You'll be climbing, spinning, and holding yourself in the air — and surprising yourself every single time.

The group is small so it's not intimidating, and nobody judges where you're starting from.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A safe and supportive space

We know that trying something new can feel daunting — especially for teens.

Every student in the Youth Aerial Arts Program is guided at their own pace, with no pressure to progress faster than they're ready to. The atmosphere is deliberately playful and non-competitive: the only person your teen is measuring themselves against is who they were last week.

Our instructors are experienced in working with young people and adapt every exercise to the individual.

What they'll take away

Aerial arts build more than physical strength. Over the course of the program, teens develop coordination, body awareness, and the kind of quiet confidence that comes from learning to do something genuinely hard. They'll make friends, get stronger, and discover what their bodies are capable of — without it ever feeling like a workout.

Fun

No boring gym routines here! Aerial arts combine fitness, creativity, and self-expression in a way that few activities can.

Flexibility

No prior experience or flexibility needed. We work with every body, every level.

Safety

Safety principles from session one — small groups, qualified instructors, and height introduced only when they're ready.

What will they do?

This video shows a simple example aerial silks  move your teen will learn during the course.

Every move is taught step by step, starting close to the ground, with an instructor right there throughout. By the end of the programme, students are linking shapes, holds, and transitions in the air — and they surprise themselves every single time!
